Terms of Service

Last updated: March 21, 2026

1. Acceptance of terms

By creating an account or using Tangent, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service. These terms apply to all users, including free and paid subscribers.

2. What Tangent provides

Tangent is an AI workspace that routes your messages to third-party large language model (LLM) providers — OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google — and organizes the conversations into channels and threads. Tangent does not generate AI responses itself; it is a conduit to those providers.

AI responses are not guaranteed to be accurate. LLMs can produce incorrect, misleading, or harmful content. Do not rely on AI responses for medical, legal, financial, or safety-critical decisions without independent verification.

3. Your account

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use Tangent.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account.
  • You may not share your account with others or create accounts on behalf of others without their consent.
  • You may not use Tangent to impersonate any person or entity.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use Tangent to:

  • Generate, store, or distribute illegal content, including content that exploits minors.
  • Harass, threaten, or harm any person.
  • Attempt to circumvent the usage limits of the free plan through automation or multiple accounts.
  • Reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract data from the service in bulk.
  • Violate the terms of service of OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms without notice.

5. Subscriptions and billing

  • The Free plan is free forever with the limits described on the pricing page.
  • Paid plans (Pro, Team) are billed monthly via Stripe.
  • You may cancel at any time from your billing settings. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period — no refunds for partial months.
  • We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days' notice. Existing subscribers will be notified by email.

6. Your content

You own the content you create in Tangent — your messages, channel names, and system prompts. By using the service, you grant Tangent a limited license to store and transmit that content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you.

We do not use your content to train AI models. We do not sell your content to third parties.

7. Intellectual property

The Tangent application, including its design, code, and branding, is owned by Tangent and protected by copyright and trademark law. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the application without written permission.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

Tangent is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI responses will be accurate. Your use of the service is at your own risk.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Tangent shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or damages resulting from AI-generated content.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice in the app or sending an email. Continued use of Tangent after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

11. AI and mental health

Tangent is an AI chat tool. It is not a therapist, counselor, psychologist, or any form of mental health professional. AI responses are not medical advice, psychological guidance, or crisis intervention. Do not rely on Tangent for emotional support in place of professional care.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, please contact a real person immediately:
